BrewDog boss blasts mini-budget for further handicapping businesses

Last month, he described the government as “clueless” for failing to support the hospitality sector

BrewDog chief executive James Watt emerged from his glass house to throw a few stones at chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng over Friday’s mini-budget.

Specifically, Watt said Kwasi Kwarteng's budget was “nothing short of a startling display of incompetence which has massively handicapped businesses who are already fighting for their lives.”

Watt, who earlier this year reportedly hired private enquiry agents to investigate people he believes are badmouthing him, added that “the UK does not need recklessly uninformed tax cutting - it needs stable and disciplined fiscal responsibility.”

The Aberdeenshire entrepreneur, who has been accused by several employees of creating a culture of fear at his company, last month described the government as “clueless” for failing to support the hospitality sector.

BrewDog had to permanently close six of its UK bars this year due to rising costs.

A public flotation of the craft brewer was supposed to happen in 2020, but has been pushed back to next year according to reports, although that is still far from certain.
