Speaking to Proactive Investors, Guild’s chief executive Kal Hourd praised the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star for his role in the agreement.

“We’re very proud of our partnership with David,” said Hourd.

“He’s been so incredibly valuable to our company, and he’s really excited about this deal.”

According to Hourd, Beckham’s involvement with Sky dates back as far as the start of this year.

“We started conversations with Sky at the beginning of the year, that’s how long these deals take to put together, and David was involved from day one.

“Just before we moved into our HQ, we invited Sky down to see it and David came,” Hourd added.

“He drove himself, got out of his vehicle and came in to meet the team from Sky because he was really excited about this deal, so he has been involved from the very beginning.”

“He's always checking in asking how things are going and asking if there's anything he can do. He's very proud of today of the moment.”

Guild announced a three-year deal with Sky that it believes is "one of the largest ever eSports sponsorships in Europe.”

Through the agreement, Sky will gain naming rights to the group’s headquarters in Shoreditch, which will become Sky Guild Gaming Centre, as well as becoming the wi-fi, broadband and network supplier, with the Sky logo featuring prominently on guild jerseys and buildings.

The sponsorship will also fund the creation of an all-female Rocket League team, with the two working closely to provide greater opportunities for women in the esports industry.
