Eastern Metals kicks off lithium pegmatite exploration at Barrow Creek

Sampling of old workings in the Barrow Creek pegmatite field by the Northern Territory Geological Survey has returned highly anomalous lithium values from pits immediately to the west of the company's Barrow Creek tenure.

Eastern Metals Ltd (ASX:EMS) has kicked off the Barrow Creek exploration program in the Northern Territory focused on mapping granites and pegmatites.

Part of the Northern Arunta pegmatite province, many pegmatites are known in the Barrow Creek field, and some have been worked on in the past for tin, tungsten, tantalum, mica and other minerals.

First step

EMS managing director and chief executive officer Wayne Rossiter said: “This program is the first step in the prioritising of the lithium pegmatite exploration potential of our tenements in the Northern Territory, all of which lie within the Arunta pegmatite province.

“Mapping of granites and identification of pegmatites will be the first step of this systematic program commencing at our Barrow Creek area and later at our Adnera area which lies along trend from the Alcoota pegmatite district.”

Program focus

Exploration will focus on the northern parts of EL23186 and EL32027 in an area 10-15 kilometres north of the Home of Bullion mine and approximately 15 kilometres northeast of the Mulbangas prospect.

The area has a similar sparse outcrop pattern of granite and Bullion Schist seen on the reported Barrow Creek pegmatite field further west.

EMS intends to identify previously-reported shear-hosted pegmatites around old workings and in the vicinity of the nearby core yard in the Home of Bullion area.
