SpectrumX said it has found a partner to support the design and execution of a Phase I clinical trial for SPX-001, its respiratory infection drug candidate
The therapy, based on SpectrumX’s licensed SPC-069 technology, is a hypochlorous acid (HOCl)-based nebulised treatment with broad-spectrum antipathogenic properties.
SpectrumX said its partner, which will remain anonymous until after the clinical trial agreement is signed, is a specialist in respiratory and human challenge trials.
A meeting with the UK regulator, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), is scheduled for November 14, 2022, after which it expects to name its new collaborator.
In the meantime, SpectrumX said the partner brings a ‘tremendous track record of conducting clinical trials from industry-leading clinical development services to pioneering human challenge studies'.
As part of the process toward a trial, SpectrumX recently announced it had shipped its SPC-069 drug substance to its manufacturing partner.
Both this and the trial partnership are critical milestones to launching the Phase 1b clinical trial with healthy volunteers, it added.
A date of March 2023 is currently pencilled in for the trial to start.
