Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) has revealed that the newest version of its iOS software allows users to edit - and even unsend - messages sent via iMessage.
Messages sent to the wrong people are easy to undo - just tap and hold the message and select "edit" or "undo send."
Messages can be edited up to five times after they have been sent, and the user has 15 minutes to do so, but the recipient can see the change history.
Reports indicate the time limit has been reduced by Apple after feedback that the feature could be abused.
The features are only available on Apple devices, and they can only be used if the recipient is also an Apple user.
It will work best if the recipient of the message has also installed iOS 16, otherwise, users will see a list of all the versions of the text message that have been edited.
A variety of other features are also included with the new iOS, including the ability to customise the lock screen and the ability to share more information.
Users of iPhones may download the update at any time, though iPad users will have to wait until October.
