Computacenter posts lower profit; UK sales dented by WFH

Server demand in the US is soaring but not enough to offset a weak UK

Computacenter PLC (LSE:CCC) saw a drop in first-half profits as a weak UK pulled down a stellar performance in the US.

Revenue in the six months to end-June 2022 rose by 16.6% to £2.82bn, though pre-tax profit declined 6.4% to £107.8mln, while adjusted pre-tax profit fell 5.9% to £111.9mln.

Even with the weaker profits, the dividend was hiked 31% to 22.1p.

"Our strong trading performance over the six months to June 30, 2022 continues to demonstrate the resilience of our business model," the company said in a statement.

UK revenues decreased by 7.1% with the working-from-home surge affecting office demand and Technology Sourcing revenues down by 10.5%. Revenues in Germany grew 10.2%.

North American results were driven by soaring demand for servers at giant or hyperscale data centers and US revenues soared 48%.

"With the exception of networking products where difficulties still remain, supply chain challenges have eased materially in the last three months," said Mike Norris, chief executive.

"However, our customers have become extremely sensitive about supply chain shortages, and as such require us to hold more inventory, impacting our balance sheet."

Shares of the company were trading 1.5% lower at 2,427p in early trades.
