National Express names experienced retail executive Helen Weir as chairperson designate

James Stamp has been appointed group interim CFO, allowing Chris Davies to join Diploma

National Express Group PLC (LSE:NEX) has named Helen Weir, a former chief financial officer at Marks & Spencer PLC, as its chair designate and also appointed an interim CFO .

The company said Weir will join the board as an independent non-executive director on October 1, 2022, and will succeed Sir John Armitt, as the coach company’s chairperson on January 1, 2023, when Armitt will stand down after almost 10 years in the role.

She is currently a supervisory board member of Dutch retailer Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV and a non-executive director at Greencore Group PLC (LSE:GNC) and Superdry PLC (LSE:SDRY). She also previously served as a non-executive director of Just Eat PLC, SABMiller (LSE:SAB) PLC, Royal Mail Holdings PLC and Cineworld Group PLC (LSE:CINE).

Weir was CFO at Marks & Spencer between 2015 and 2018 and has previously been group finance director at John Lewis Partnership and Lloyds Banking Group where she was also chief executive of the retail bank.

The FTSE 250 transport group also announced that James Stamp, currently CFO of the company’s UK & Germany division, will be appointed group interim CFO on November 1, 2022, when he will also join the board.

His appointment means that current CFO Chris Davies can leave National Express to join Diploma PLC (LSE:DPLM) on November 1.

National Express said it had appointed Russell Reynolds to help it find a permanent CFO.
