GB Group shares jump after US private equity firm GTCR confirms it is currently considering making a possible cash offer

In a statement responding to press speculation, the Chicago-based firm said late on Tuesday that there can be no certainty any firm offer will be made, nor as to the terms on which any firm offer might be made

GB Group (LSE:GBG) PLC saw its share price jump by over 20% in morning deals on Wednesday after US private equity firm GTCR confirmed that it is currently considering a possible cash offer for the identity verification specialist.

In a statement responding to press speculation, the Chicago-based firm said late on Tuesday that there can be no certainty any firm offer will be made, nor as to the terms on which any firm offer might be made. A further announcement will be made as and when appropriate, it added.

In its own brief statement on Wednesday, GB Group said: "Any proposals received will be evaluated by the board of GBG together with its advisers." It urged shareholders to take no action.

Around 9.30am, GB Group shares in London were 21.7% higher at 635p.
