ATOME Energy has acquired a 75-acre (30-hectare) site in Villeta, Paraguay, for a green hydrogen and ammonia production facility.
Adjacent to the Villeta substation for the facility, ATOME has agreed to buy the site from a local landowner for US$900,000, with completion expected in four months.
The Villeta facility is ultimately projected to be a 400 megawatt (MW) project in Paraguay and this site gives room to expand up to that capacity, said ATOME.
It is also close to Villeta port facilities on the River Paraguay, 35km from the capital Asuncion and a waterway to the Atlantic Ocean that is also used by nearby fertiliser companies that are expected to be some of the main customers for the plant.
Olivier Mussat, ATOME’s chief executive, added: "The large 75-acre footprint not only enables ATOME to have room for future expansion and facilitation of storage but it also gives ATOME the scale to grow its business footprint and attract associated industries and provide new sustainable jobs.”
ATOME added chair Peter Levine is to speak at Invest in Paraguay on 8 September 2022 alongside the president of power company ANDE and the Paraguayan general director of ITAIPU BINACIONAL, the second largest-hydroelectric dam in the world, a position previously held by James Spalding, now president of ATOME Paraguay.
