Pharmaxis Ltd (ASX:PXS, OTC:PMXSF) CEO Gary Phillips brings Proactive up to speed on a "groundbreaking" collaboration with leading charity Parkinson's UK and a A$5 million investment to support a Phase 2 clinical trial. Researchers from Sydney and Oxford universities will join forces to investigate Pharmaxis' drug candidate, formally known as PXS-4782, in a bid to tackle Parkinson’s at the onset. Specifically, the upcoming study will examine whether targeting brain inflammation in isolated Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behaviour Disorder (iRBD) patients could provide a viable neuroprotective strategy to prevent the disease, which has no cure. Phillips says the trial provides hope for an effective treatment and represents a step towards the longer-term goal of stopping neurodegeneration at the source.
