Crypto.com on the way to the UK

FCA registration signals popular digital asset exchange will open up to UK customers

Singapore-based, Matt Damon-fronted, LA Lakers stadium-sponsoring digital asset exchange Crypto.com has officially registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), signalling the likelihood of the platform’s services being opened up to UK customers.

The news follows a March announcement of several senior Crypto.com hires in the UK, including the appointment of a UK general manager and a global head of sustainability and ESG.

We’re excited to share that we've received regulatory approval in another key global jurisdiction, this time from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) ????????

We'll work hard to support the UK’s vision to become a global crypto hub.

“This is a significant milestone for Crypto.com, with the UK representing a strategically important market for us and at a time when the government is pushing forward with its agenda to make Britain a global hub for crypto asset technology and investment,” said chief executive officer and co-founder Kris Marszalek.

Marszalek continued: “We are committed to the UK market and we look forward to developing our platform and presence in the UK further by expanding our offering to customers, while continuing to work with regulators.”

Although the FCA shut down Binance’s operations last year on customer safety concerns, the UK government is seen as fairly bullish on the crypto sector.

In particular, former chancellor of the exchequer and current prime ministerial candidate Rishi Sunak has talked up Britain’s crypto potential in recent months after outlining a framework “to make Britain a global hub for cryptoasset technology and investment”.

Crypto.com has 50 million customers globally, and registered in South Korea and Italy in recent weeks.

Perhaps Matt Damon can cut the virtual ribbon.
