Legend Mining Ltd (ASX:LEG) has enlisted exploration technology company HiSeis to carry out a 3D seismic survey ranging some 24.5 square kilometres over the Octagonal Intrusive Complex at the Rockford Project, Fraser Range, Western Australia.
The aim of the survey is to define the architecture of the Octagonal Intrusive Complex in relation to the stratigraphic package, to a depth of a minimum of 1500 metres below surface.
Mawson prospect a blueprint
The decision to conduct this survey – in which Legend is investing more than a million dollars – is based on the results it has fielded at Mawson prospect.
The company has been drilling the seismic target picked out at Mawson, and a fifth diamond drillhole has extended the mineralised chonolith, which remains open to the northwest.
Legend managing director Mark Wilson said: “The results thus far of the five diamond holes drilled at Mawson this year have confirmed the effectiveness of seismic as an exploration tool at the Rockford Project.
“These results have encouraged Legend to commit to a new +$1 million 3D seismic survey at the Octagonal prospect.
“The Octagonal prospect is the fourth known occurrence of massive nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation in the Fraser Zone, the other three being Nova-Bollinger, Silver Knight (both IGO) and Legend’s discovery at Mawson.
“As such, Legend is positioned with two advanced prospects for the discovery of nickel-copper sulphides and a treasury of circa $13 million – a truly enviable position for any junior explorer.”
The survey was designed by Barry Bourne of Terra Resources, who has been retained as a consultant for the survey.
HiSeis are scheduled to mobilise to site in mid-October.
Work cut out for Legend
There’s a fair bit scheduled for the Rockford Project in coming months, including:
- detailed structural analysis of completed diamond drillholes at Mawson;
- collation of all downhole geophysical and petrophysical data from Mawson;
- reprocessing of the Mawson 3D seismic model with new downhole datasets;
- acquiring seismic data for Octagonal from October through November 2022; and
- processing data from Octagonal from November 2022 to March 2023, with a final 3D seismic model due in April-May 2023.
When it receives the final 3D model, Legend will merge the information with existing geophysical, geological, geochemical, and structural datasets so it can define and rank new diamond drilling targets for the 2023 field season.
