Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust shares shrug off 10% fall for Chinese tech investment

Meituan, an online food delivery giant, is the FTSE 100 fund's sixth largest stake

Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LSE:SMT) had mixed news from two of giant Chinese investments, Tencent Holdings (HKG:0700, OTC:TCEHY) and Meituan, both among its top-10 holdings.

Shares in Meituan, an online food delivery giant that is the FTSE 100 fund's sixth largest stake, at 3.2%, fell 10% in Hong Kong on reports that Tencent is looking to offload most or all of its own US$24bn stake in Meituan.

Tencent, which is SMT's fifth largest holding, at 3.8%, fell 2% initial before recovering to a fall of nearer 0.6%.

The planned stake sale by Tencent was reported by Reuters to be in order to placate regulators in Beijing amid a continued crackdown on technology titans.

Shares in SMT were up 0.2% to 917.81p in early trading.
