Horizonte Minerals PLC (AIM:HZM, TSX:HZM, OTC:HZMMF) swung to an interim profit as the company made significant progress on its flagship Araguaia nickel project in Brazil.
It said construction of the project is on schedule.
Horizonte closed a US$633mln funding package and announced the start of construction at Araguaia during the first six months of this year.
The nickel development company ended the period with US$199mln in cash, prior to any debt drawdown.
Horizonte, which has yet to generate revenue, moved to a pretax profit of US$7.1mln mainly helped by US$9.4mln of foreign exchange gains. It posted a restated loss of US$3.1mln in the year-earlier period.
It recently awarded the industrial civil works contract for the construction of Araguaia to Brazilian construction company Copa.
