Miramar Resources Ltd (ASX:M2R) is forging ahead with a diamond drilling program at its 100%-owned Glandore Project, some 40 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie, in the Eastern Goldfields of WA, an area mostly covered by Lake Yindarlgooda.
Diamond drilling will test the Glandore East target, at the edge of the salt lake, where historical drilling yielded drill intersections of up to 6 metres @ 29.8g/t gold.
Past drilling confirmed bedrock gold
The previous high-grade gold mineralisation was found at the contact between a layered mafic sequence and a later granitoid intrusion beneath a substantial aircore gold footprint under the lake sediments.
The company is confident that bedrock gold mineralisation is present over a strike length of almost 700 metres and comprises multiple westerly dipping mineralised quartz veins and/or felsic porphyry dikes.
Open at depth and along strike
The gold mineralisation is open at depth on every section.
Miramar interprets the strike of the gold mineralisation to be northeast-trending, like the nearby Majestic and Imperial deposits. If this interpretation is correct, the mineralisation at Glandore East also remains open along strike in either direction.
Miramar executive chairman Allan Kelly said the company was excited about the opportunity to test this target: “Glandore East was one of the highest-ranking drill targets in the Miramar IPO Prospectus but we were delayed in testing it due to the inability to secure a drill rig capable of drilling on the salt lake,” he said.
“Significant gold intersections”
“Like many gold prospects in Western Australia, including the Andy Well prospect before we started drilling there with Doray Minerals in 2010, our Glandore East target has a number of significant gold intersections but did not meet the economic threshold of the previous owner and was simply left behind,” he added.
“We believe that, with a bit of luck, Miramar could quickly outline a deposit at Glandore East capable of being developed with the existing and/or proposed gold processing infrastructure nearby.”
The current program will be completed by a lightweight track-mounted diamond drill rig and will initially cover seven drill holes for around 1,000 metres, but the company may extend this plan if first results look good.
Multiple drill program on horizon
Glandore East is just one of several drilling campaigns scheduled for the coming months, alongside:
- a 12,000-metre aircore drilling campaign at the Boorara North target (Gidji JV);
- first pass aircore drilling of folded BIF targets at the Randalls Project, 70 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie; and
- aircore drilling of potential IOCG targets at the Whaleshark Project, near Onslow.
