Taiwan-based suppliers of Apple products are being asked to label their products as being produced in China, according to a recent Nikkei Asia report.
China has a long-standing policy that Taiwan-made imports must be labelled as made in "Taiwan, China" or "Chinese Taipei", but enforcement has ramped up in the wake of heightened tensions following US speaker and congresswoman Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the disputed territory.
“The US tech titan urged suppliers to treat the matter with urgency to avoid possible disruptions caused by goods and components being held for scrutiny,” the report said.
The warning arose following a review into China-based i Phone assembly facilities owned by Taiwanese electronics company Pegatron.
