Symphony Environmental Technologies PLC (AIM:SYM) said Mexico published a new technical standard that has positive commercial implications for its d2w biodegradable technology in the country and Latin America overall.
The technical standard is similar to the US for exposing and testing plastics that degrade in the environment by a combination of oxidation and biodegradation, it said.
The world-leading developer of technology to make ordinary plastic biodegradable said it validates the technology, including Symphony's d2w masterbatch, for the accelerated biodegradation of plastic if it gets into the open environment as litter.
Other countries in Latin America including Peru, Costa Rica, Ecuador and The Dominican Republic already have a similar standard as do the UK, France and Sweden in Europe.
The Middle East, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia demand compliance with their own similar standards for a wide range of plastic products made in or imported into, those countries.
The new technical standard will come into effect in Mexico on 29 October 2022.
