Castillo Copper Ltd (LSE:CCZ, ASX:CCZ) is one step closer to turning the soil on base metal targets at the Broken Hill Alliance (BHA) project in NSW’s far west.
The ASX-lister will focus the drill bit on the BHA project’s East Zone, where it plans to drill one diamond and 17 reverse circulation drill holes over 2,100 metres.
So far, two drill holes have been earmarked for The Sisters target, while the balance of holes will be dotted across the Fence Gossan, Reefs and Tors Tanks prospects.
At these targets, Castillo is on a mission to intersect two lower cobalt-rich zones that are interpreted to host higher grade mineralisation than has been modelled to date.
As it gets the drill bit spinning, CCZ believes it is one step closer to extending the known mineralisation in BHA’s East Zone, as well as upping the confidence and grade of the existing mineral resource, which stands at 21,556 tonnes of cobalt and 44,260 tonnes of copper.
The Castillo board will appoint a drilling contractor shortly and notify the market of a start date once regulatory approvals are in hand.
Deepening understanding
Commenting on the progress to date, Castillo Copper managing director Dr Dennis Jensen said: “The board’s strategic intent with the upcoming drilling campaign is to extend known cobalt mineralisation as well as enhance the confidence and grade of the current MRE.
“Further, with the geology team having undertaken extensive due diligence across the East Zone, the board is confident the targets selected for test-drilling should significantly deepen our understanding of the underlying system.”
