Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to turn his baseball card into an NFT

Founder Mark Zuckerberg lends a hand with his custom Little League baseball card getting turned into an NFT

Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB)'s chief executive Mark Zuckerberg will turn his own 1992 Little League baseball card into a non-fungible token (NFT) to be available for sale on Instagram shortly.

The physical card will be auctioned off, while a digital version will be stored on the blockchain.

After an initial test launch in the US in May, Instagram, owned by Meta, is expanding support for NFTs to 100 countries.

Using the feature, creators and businesses can launch their digital collectables on the social media platform.

The NFT support on Instagram will allow users to share digital collectables, while also tagging the creator and collector instantly.

Zuckerberg announced the news on his Facebook feed, sharing his old Little League baseball card converted into an NFT.

Authenticated and sold as an actual collectable along with the digital blockchain receipt, the card was custom-made by Zuckerberg for a camp counsellor.

The launch of the personalised NFT comes as Facebook just reported its first-ever decline in second-quarter revenue.

Meta also announced that it now supports Coinbase Wallet and Dapper wallets for NFTs, and users will also have the ability to post NFTs minted on the Flow blockchain.
