Musk and Twitter subpoena advisers in advance of October trial

Musk has handed writs to JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs after Twitter subpoenaed his advisers and co-investors

The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has asked banks acting for Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) to hand over confidential documents related to his potential takeover of the social media platform.

It is the latest development in the takeover saga since Twitter attempted to sue Musk for attempting to pull out of the US$44bn deal after he made unfulfilled requests for information on the number of bots on the platform.

Musk’s lawyers issued a subpoena to the company’s advisers, JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS), in a bid to force them to reveal ‘documents and communications’ around the advice they gave Twitter, filings on Wednesday to the Delaware Chancery Court show.

The subpoenas also aim to decipher whether other buyers were being evaluated by the company, Bloomberg reported.

Twitter has allegedly launched dozens of subpoenas against Musk in the past week, approaching his advisers Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) and those of his co-investors.

These include subpoenas issued to a unit of Brookfield Asset Management (TSX:BAM.A), Marc Andreessen and Ken Griffin, Bloomberg reported.

The legal approaches precede a trial that is expected to start on 17 October in a Delaware court and last for five days.
