Manchester United reached a provisional agreement with fans to own shares in the Premier League club.
Under the proposals, the club would issue so-called category “B” shares which would match those owned by the Glazers - the owners of Manchester United.
The category B shares would have 10 times the voting weight of category A shares, which are owned by most of the current investors, according to the Guardian.
Yesterday, Manchester United Supports Trust (MUST), held an online consultation over issuing shares in the club to fans, with an exit poll stating 99% would be in favour of the idea.
A ballot will close next Tuesday and, if accepted, the proposal would then go to the Premier League club's board.
According to the Guardian, the club is believed to be hopeful the scheme will be accepted, which suggests approval by the Glazers is a formality.
