Technology Minerals PLC (LSE:TM1) said battery boxes developed by a company in which it has a 49% stake have received UN-standard safety certification.
The Halo technology created by Recyclus adheres to certain strict criteria for the transportation of lithium-ion batteries.
This, TM said, will open a new revenue stream for business in domestic and international markets.
“Discussions with potential customers have demonstrated the level of demand for the Halo boxes and we expect to see revenues during August," said chairman Robin Brundle.
The British-engineered design is modular and repairable to deliver longevity – and, by extension, greater value to the end user.
The unique battery ‘pillow', meanwhile, provides a safer, more environmentally friendly solution to the current standard casings by preventing battery fires from emitting toxic gases.
Lithium batteries can pose a serious fire risk if mishandled. Recent data from Eunomia Research & Consulting found these power units are currently responsible for around 48% of all waste fires in the UK each year, causing around £158mln in damages annually.
