Chimeric Therapeutics Ltd (ASX:CHM) has opened the door to commercialisation in Japan with the grant of a patent by the Japan Patent Office for certain applications of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) technology using chlorotoxin (CLTX) – in particular the company’s clinical-stage CAR T asset CHM 1101 and preclinical-stage CAR NK asset CHM 1301.
Chimeric is a clinical-stage company developing a platform based on CAR T cell therapies, originally discovered by the US CAR T experts at the City of Hope Cancer Centre in Los Angeles.
Chimeric’s CLTX-CAR T technology incorporates chlorotoxin, a peptide derived from scorpion toxin, as a novel CAR tumour recognition domain which improves the binding effect of the antigen to tumour cells.

This latest patent was granted under patent number JP 7,085,990, entitled 'Chimeric antigen receptors containing a chlorotoxin domain'.
Chimeric holds the exclusive worldwide licence to develop and commercialise JP 7,085,990 and related patent applications filed in other global territories.
CHM 1101 (CLTX CAR T) is a novel CAR T therapy developed for the treatment of patients with solid tumours. CHM 1101 is being studied in aPphase 1 clinical trial in recurrent/progressive glioblastoma.
CHM 0201 (CORE-NK platform) is a clinically validated, off-the-shelf natural killer (NK) cell platform. Data from the complete phase 1 clinical trial was published in March 2022, demonstrating safety and efficacy in blood cancers and solid tumours.
