Artrya Ltd (ASX:AYA) has brought on board a recognised leader in the US healthcare care sector as a new non-executive director.
The Aussie medtech has appointed academic cardiologist Dr Jacque Sokolov to the board from today, bolstering its experience “across all aspects of the US healthcare industry”.
Over the course of his career, Dr Sokolov has advised US companies and government entities, including the White House under four presidents, Senate and House committees.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Dr Sokolov and Artrya have crossed paths: the new non-executive director is chairman and president of Artrya USA Inc and chairs the company’s Clinical Advisory Board.
“The right time”
Artrya chair Bernie Ridgeway said he was delighted to welcome Dr Sokolov to the board and that today’s announcement represented a key milestone.
“Dr Sokolov’s appointment is strongly aligned with Artrya’s growth strategy as an AI medical technology company,” Ridgeway explained.
“There were always plans to expand the board and this is the right time."
Ridgeway added that Dr Sokolov’s experience across healthcare delivery, biotechnology and regulatory clearance strengthened the board as the company planned its next steps.
“Dr Sokolov will be an important contributor as we execute our growth priorities and pursue regulatory clearance,” he continued.
“As a formally trained academic cardiologist with proven strategic leadership, having served on multiple US public, private and not-for-profit healthcare boards, he brings a unique, dynamic and significant insight.”
Commenting on his appointment, Dr Sokolov said he was pleased to contribute to Artrya’s strategic evolution.
“This is such an important opportunity – to support diagnosing clinicians in both emergency and primary care and, moreover, help to save the lives of those at risk of adverse cardiac events,” Dr Sokolov said.
What does Artrya do?
Artrya is developing AI-powered imaging software to combat one of the world’s deadliest diseases.
According to Heart Research Australia, heart disease is the country’s single leading cause of death and is estimated to kill one Australian every 28 minutes.
What’s more, damage to the heart’s major blood vessels, known as coronary artery disease (CAD) claims nine million lives worldwide every year.
Now, Artrya’s Salix Coronary Anatomy (SCA) solution is on a mission to change how the world sees CAD, as well as rapidly improve how clinicians detect and diagnose the heart disease.
In fact, the platform is the only holistic, non-invasive solution that allows clinicians at the point of care to easily assess CAD.
Essentially, the software-as-a-service Salix technology harnesses AI to pinpoint vulnerable plaque, stenosis and any other key biomarkers that could underly heart disease.
Artrya believes the platform offers healthcare systems an enterprise-level solution that may deter the need for additional or invasive testing, reduce excessive patient admission and encourage appropriate patient treatment to be offered sooner.
