Lithium Australia Ltd (ASX:LIT, OTC:LMMFF) subsidiary Envirostream Pty Ltd, a leader in the battery recycling industry, has sealed a deal with Battery World Australia Pty Ltd for the collection of spent batteries.
The battery recycling services agreement gives Envirostream access to more than 100 Battery World stores across Australia and boosts the total available consumer drop-off points to Envirostream to in excess of 800, providing the potential for increased recycling volumes.
Expanding collection network
Battery World joins Bunnings Warehouse, Officeworks, Milwaukee, TTI and Mobile Muster as part of Envirostream’s expanding collection network.
The agreement, effective August 1, will see Envirostream provide battery recycling services at participating Battery World franchise sites across Australia, allowing the recycling company to collect spent consumer batteries – including lithium batteries, but excluding lead acid batteries – from Battery World’s network of more than 110 stores nationally.
Increased volumes
The agreement follows the successful trial of spent-battery collection services run by Envirostream in several Battery World stores in South-East Queensland.
Access to this network diversifies Envirostream’s collection points and has the potential to increase volumes at its facilities in Victoria.
The new site at Laverton was commissioned specifically to increase Envirostream’s capacity in preparation for the expected increase in volumes of end-of-life batteries. Envirostream now has access to more than 800 collection points nationally.
Battery World and Envirostream have worked together to ensure that the drop-off points for spent batteries across the Battery World franchise network are convenient and safe for customers and facilitate efficient collection by Envirostream.
Product stewardship scheme
Envirostream’s work meets the eligibility requirements for the nation’s official product stewardship scheme operated by B-cycle. Under the scheme, Envirostream is an accredited collector, sorter and processor and receives rebates on a per-kilogram basis.

“The convenient drop-off points at Battery World stores will motivate Battery World customers to sustainably dispose of their spent batteries, lowering volumes sent into landfill.
“This agreement complements those partners already signed, with other household names including Bunnings Warehouse and Officeworks.
