Platinex Inc has issued an update on its W2 Copper-Nickel PGE (platinum group elements) project in Ontario, noting that it recently completed go-forward exploration plans.
As part of the planning process, historical exploration and drilling data were analyzed, including 10,000 meters of drilling by Aurora Platinum and Inco Limited, along with airborne geophysical surveys by Aurora Platinum and Temex Resources.
Platinex said it confirmed numerous drill targets, including step-outs within known areas of mineralization and new exploration targets in areas with no previous drilling.

Exploration plans at W2 include infill drilling to establish continuity of the historically defined 7.5-kilometer widely spaced copper-nickel-PGE mineralization corridor in the central part of the western W2 land package. This program will include petrographic and preliminary bench-scale metallurgical studies on the disseminated sulfide mineralization, the company said.
Additionally, there is planned drill testing of several high conductance-high magnetic susceptibility geophysical anomalies; a ground gravity survey over an ultramafic intrusion to detect potential chromite mineralization; and petrographic and/or preliminary bench-scale metallurgical studies to justify additional drilling along strike of the iron-tin-vanadium mineralization.
At the center of the property, a program of systematic step-out drilling will enable Platinex to determine the continuity of mineralization and potentially expand historical resources, the company said.
At least seven zones of significant copper-nickel-PGE mineralization have been identified at wide spacing to date. For example, drill holes LH-01-05 and LH-01-06, which are located 4 km apart with no intervening drill holes, contain both wide sections of lower grade copper nickel palladium platinum mineralization and narrow sections of higher grade mineralization.
The W2 project is a district-scale land package comprising 784 mining claims and covering over 16,000 hectares at the southwestern extent of Ontario’s Ring of Fire.
Appointments
Platinex has also formed a W2 advisory board and appointed a director of operations and community relations, the company said. The board will advise and assist management as the W2 project moves forward.
James Mungall, an expert in magmatic sulfide; Ike Osmani, a consultant with 35 years of field-based mineral exploration experience; and Mackenzie Potter, an industry veteran with extensive technical and managerial experience including securing meaningful dialogue with regional indigenous communities, have been named to the board.
Meanwhile, W2 project manager Robin Webster has been named director of operations and community relations for the company. The appointment expands his responsibilities from his current role, the company said. Webster was previously the CEO of Goldeye Explorations Limited.
