Magnis Energy Technologies Ltd (ASX:MNS, OTCQX:MNSEF) has advanced the Imperium3 New York (iM3NY) lithium-ion battery plant to 84% completion, achieved alongside joint venture and technology partner Charge CCCV LLC (C4V) which is joint major shareholder of iM3NY with Magnis.
The two companies are developing a gigawatt-scale lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in Endicott, New York, under the banner of iM3NY.
The plant has now reached the final stage before fully automated operation can begin.
Once certificates are issued by local authority, production is expected to begin with an initial batch of several thousand cells, to be ramped-up to 10,000 cells per day in August as production scales up.
At that point, Magnis expects the facility will have reached 88% completion. The remaining 12% includes cosmetic changes to the factory, minor works to an internal office area and the gradual ramp-up of production.
Fully automated operation on the horizon
“We are very close to achieving fully automated production and the iM3NY team has worked around the clock in this challenging global environment to start automated production,” iM3NY CEO Chaitanya Sharma said.
There are several items still in progress, including exhaust ductwork, installation of safety alarm systems and control panel, commissioning of substations and power distribution panels, and insulation of steam, condensate lines and chilled water piping.
