VT Downing Small & Mid Cap Income Fund manager Josh McCathie says the performance of the fund has been “pretty robust” this year, considering it hasn’t got exposure to the large energy companies that have done so well.
With the UK such a concentrated income market, he says the fund’s focus on small and mid-cap UK companies offers income investors diversification and “also there's potential for hopefully better total return”.
McCathie also talks about the other ways in which the fund stands out in the UK equity income funds sector, as well as the investment process that is used.
