Directa Plus PLC (AIM:DCTA, OTC:DTPKF) signed a commercial agreement for Grafysorber, its graphene-based solution for treating water sludges and oil spills, with global chemicals supplier REDA.
Grafysorber is a sustainably produced, reusable water filtration system specifically designed to remove toxic hydrocarbons and sludge, proven in tests to be at least five times more effective than current technologies as it can adsorb more than 100 times its own weight of oil-based pollutants.
Following a first order from REDA of several thousands of pillows and barriers that allowed its products to be tested by customers in the North Sea, Directa said a second similar order will now be placed as part of the agreement.
This will enable REDA to build a minimum safety stock of products to cover northern Europe and begin distribution of Grafysorber products to its customers.
“The agreement with REDA represents an important milestone in the commercialisation of Grafysorber products in international oil producing regions with the North Sea being the first,” said Giulio Cesareo, founder and chief executive of Directa Plus.

Feedback from North Sea customers included appreciation for the lightness and simplicity in handling, Directa said, as well as the effectiveness of absorption, and the reduced amount of plastic used in Grafysorber booms and pillows.
