Ondine Biomedical Inc (AIM:OBI)’s nasal photodisinfection technology ‘rapidly and substantially suppresses’ the replication and ‘infectivity’ in the nasal cavity of already-vaccinated people with Covid.
Top line data from the trial, carried out at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, Spain, confirm the early work undertaken by Canadian researchers during the pandemic, said the study’s lead investigator Dr Alejandro Fernandez-Montero.
“The study contributes to the growing body of evidence demonstrating positive outcomes with nasal photodisinfection in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19," Ondine president, Dr Nicolas Loebel, said.
The full results are being submitted for publication and will be shared in greater detail once this takes place, Ondine told investors.
The photodisinfection process works by the light exciting a photosensitive gel, causing an oxidative burst that rapidly destroys pathogens - bacteria, viruses, and fungi - by irreparably damaging their cell membranes and surface proteins. This process immediately stops when the light is removed.
