Carnavale Resources Ltd (ASX:CAV) has kicked off diamond drilling at the Kookynie Gold Project with the aim of providing detailed textural and structural information for the high-grade Western Australian project.
The company is planning to sink three holes for 500 metres to get a better understanding of the orientation of the mineralising structures and their interaction with the host geology as well as detail on the rock strength and density.
The work will involve:
- 0-100 metre reverse circulation (RC) pre collar. Diamond drilling (DD) 100 to 320 metres end of hole (EOH) (220 metres of DD) designed to extend the mineralised envelope by more than 40 metres down dip;
- 0-150 metres RC pre collar. DD 150 to 300 metres EOH (150 metres of DD) designed to extend the mineralised envelope by more than 40 metres down dip; and
- 0-228 metres RC pre collar. DD 228 to 350 metres EOH (122 metres of DD) designed as a scissor hole to provide extra structural detail around high-grade mineralisation in the centre of the prospect.

“We are excited to be back at Kookynie with the diamond drill rig,” CAV CEO Humphrey Hale said.
“This will give us important information on the structural controls to the high-grade mineralisation already encountered plus adding depth extents to the known mineralised envelope.”

Reverse circulation (RC) drilling results from McTavish East announced in January this year included:
- 16 metres at 20.92 g/t from 161 metres, including 10 metres at 31.88 g/t;
- 4 metres at 17.82 g/t from 78 metres, including 2 metres at 33.55 g/t;
- 4 metres at 12.94 g/t from 126 metres, including 2 metres at 23.67 g/t; and
- 4 metres at 6.39 g/t from 114 metres, including 1 metres at 23.30 g/t.
DD program to take two weeks
Three pre-collars for diamond drilling were completed during the RC program in April, and CAV expects the results for these to be delivered in two weeks.
Core from the diamond drilling, expected to be completed in two weeks, will be orientated and logged onsite and transported to Kalgoorlie for cutting and sampling prior to submission to the laboratory.
Assays are expected in 10 weeks, which is the current turnaround time.
