Empower Clinics Inc revealed the launch of its subsidiary Medisure’s latest blood glucose monitor.
The product will be available to more than 11,000 pharmacies across Canada in August, and for sale through Medisure’s website and clinic network.
The new blood glucose monitor showcases a number of improvements over previous iterations, Empower said, such as requiring smaller blood sample sizes, support for alternative sites on the body for blood removal, and improved testing strips for more accurate results.

Blood glucose monitors are essential for people with diabetes to help them manage their condition by measuring how much glucose is in their blood. Around 40 million people in the US and Canada have diabetes.
"The launch of this cutting edge medical test device for the millions who suffer from diabetes is another example of Medisure's vision to be a global leader for at-home testing solutions," Steven McAuley, CEO of Empower Clinics, said in a statement.
"We know that pharmacies across Canada have been eagerly awaiting the launch of this product because we've already received pre-launch orders. I'm very proud of the entire team at Medisure as they continue to be innovative and launch new products - like Vitamin D test kits and this new BGM - that have immediate market adoption with pre-launch orders."
Incorporating patient and physician feedback
Medisure president Mario Cortis added that the new blood glucose monitor was designed by leveraging the strengths of the earlier version and incorporating patient feedback.
"We're excited to launch and share this new BGM because it is a product that was built in partnership with patients, pharmacies and distributors,” Cortis told investors.
“Pre-launch orders is a testament to their belief in their partnership with Medisure. Based on this partnership model and ethos, we look forward to launching many more at-home testing solutions with our partners."
Vancouver-based Empower is an integrated healthcare company that provides body and mind wellness for patients through its clinics, with digital and telemedicine care, a medical device company and world-class medical diagnostics laboratories.
CEO McAuley told Proactive this new system is Bluetooth-enabled and requires a smaller blood sample size. It also has improved testing strips that improve accuracy and faster reaction time for results in less than six seconds.
