tinyBuild plans European office as performance exceeds expectations in first half

New releases included Startup Panic, where players build and manage a startup to “compete with rival CEOs and expand your office from bedroom programmer up to the heights of global corporate sabotage”

tinyBuild Inc said it expects its full-year performance to be equal to or better than current expectations after the first half was “slightly ahead”.

This flies in the face of rivals that have blamed lower video games sales on a crowded release schedule and return to pre-pandemic gaming trends.

The video games developer and publisher said it is planning to open a new permanent studio in Europe as it continues to hire staff in strategic geographies “as part of its effort to secure talent at a competitive cost”.

Chief executive Alex Nichiporchik said: “We are really excited about tinyBuild's progress in terms of organic growth, with new titles in our pipeline showing strong KPIs ahead of launch and back catalogue games such as Potion Craft reaching the largest number of Steam wishlists in our portfolio.”

The company announced a record number of new titles in the period, including highly anticipated sequel Hello Neighbor 2, while new releases included Startup Panic, where players build and manage a startup to “compete with rival CEOs and expand your office from bedroom programmer up to the heights of global corporate sabotage”, and the Not for Broadcast, a “dystopian, darkly comedic TV propaganda simulator”.

Its existing catalogue did well too during the first half, including Deadside, a post-apocalypse multiplayer shooter, and alchemist simulator Potion Craft.

The company is planning “new monetisable events” for the second half for Deadside, Potion Craft, as well as Cartel Tycoon, a survival business simulator inspired by the eighties narcotics trade; Black Skylands, a skypunk open world action-adventure; spider-shooting game Kill it with Fire; and Despot's Game, an army tactics game.

Advances received from distribution partners for games development arrived as anticipated, which it said provided visibility on future revenue growth and helped de-risk the process.
