Destiny Pharma PLC (AIM:DEST) said it will carry out a research project backed by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation that will assess the potential use of the former’s XF-73 drug in treating people with the lung condition that have contracted methicillin-resistant MRSA.
Destiny will have access to clinical isolates collected from people with cystic fibrosis (CF).
No financial details were given.
"We are very excited to carry out this project with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” said chief executive Neil Clark.
“The tailored research will allow us to demonstrate the potential of XF-73 in alleviating the suffering of thousands of MRSA-infected cystic fibrosis patients and is another programme derived from our proprietary XF platform."
XF-73 is a nasal gel which recently completed a positive phase IIb clinical trial targeting the prevention of post-surgical staphylococcal hospital infections including MRSA.
Destiny Pharma's lead asset is NTCD-M3, a phase III-ready treatment for the prevention of C. difficile infection recurrence, the leading cause of hospital-acquired infection.
