Co-Diagnostics (NASDAQ:CODX) Inc announced it has shipped testing reagents for the monkeypox virus, currently exhibiting a multi-country outbreak, to one of its international distributors.

Over 6,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported to the World Health Organization from 59 countries.

The firm announced in May that it had completed the principal design work on a PCR test for the monkeypox virus, which is transmitting through close contact with lesions, body fluids, respiratory droplets and contaminated materials such as bedding.
CEO Dwight Egan noted that the World Health Organization has stated that ‘Detection of viral DNA by polymerase chain reaction (PCR)’ is the preferred laboratory test for monkeypox.
“We are grateful to our dedicated design and manufacturing teams, whose efforts have allowed us to react so quickly to meet the needs of an important distributor customer,” Egan said.
“Co-Dx is pleased to be able to continue our mission of providing high-quality, affordable molecular testing products in response to ever-changing healthcare demands in regions all around the world."
The company’s technology is utilized for tests that are designed using the detection and/or analysis of nucleic acid molecules. It also uses its proprietary technology to design specific tests to locate genetic markers for use in industries other than infectious disease and license the use of those tests to specific customers.
