Mako Gold Ltd (ASX:MKG) has fielded positive assay results following recent shallow reverse circulation (RC) drilling at Komboro Prospect, part of the company’s flagship Napié Project in Côte d’Ivoire.
Mako managing director Peter Ledwidge said: “We are thrilled with the results of our new discovery at the Komboro prospect as it has confirmed the presence of significant mineralisation at a fourth prospect on the Napié Project.”
Komboro is sitting on a more-than-23-kilometre soil anomaly and the coincident 30-kilometre‐long Napié Fault and associated splays.
The high‐grade gold discovery is of particular significance on the back of the release of the company’s maiden 868,000-ounce gold inferred mineral resource estimate (MRE) at Tchaga and Gogbala, and validates Mako’s strategy to grow the Napié Gold Project to a multi‐million‐ounce system.
Drilling highlights
The RC campaign returned multiple shallow high‐grade intersections including:
- 9 metres at 3.26 g/t gold from 67 metres, including 3 metres at 7.29 g/t from 67 metres;
- 1-metre at 30.47 g/t from 86 metres;
- 1-metre at 8.45 g/t from 74 metres; and
- 5 metres at 1.64 g/t from 56 metres.
Six out of the seven targets drilled returned significant gold values, highlighting what Mako thinks is untapped potential in the northern part of the permit.
“The drill results validate the company’s growth strategy of identifying new areas for potential resource delineation following the recent delivery of the 868,000-ounce inferred maiden MRE at Tchaga and Gogbala,” said Ledwidge.
“We look forward to drilling more extensively along the 9-kilometre‐long intermittent artisanal mining sites at the end of the wet season.”
Significance of the results
The latest results are significant for several reasons:
- the new discovery validates Mako’s belief in the district‐scale potential and the goal to identify a multi‐million‐ounce deposit on the Napié Project;
- six of the seven wide-ranging targets drilled at Komboro returned significant results, and previous aircore drilling and rock chip sampling also returned positive results, again demonstrating the size of the prospect; and
- Komboro displays the same characteristics as Tchaga and Gogbala in the early days of drilling.
Further drilling is planned on Komboro following the wet season. Company geologists are on the ground mapping and rock chip sampling in preparation of the next phase of drilling planned for the third quarter of the year.
