Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has undergone a massive layoff two months after announcing a company-wide hiring freeze, reportedly laying off some 30% of its talent acquisition team.
Though a company spokesman said employees will receive a severance package, no details were provided.
Twitter is to halt hiring except for important positions, as some 100 employees have lost their jobs, the Wall Street Journal reports.
As Twitter fights to execute Elon Musk's US$44bn takeover offer, it has already announced a hiring restriction.
It had been only a few weeks since Musk hinted that Twitter would lay off workers in order to regain its health.
Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) boss Musk has threatened to pull out of Twitter's acquisition multiple times due to bot issues on the platform, with the social media firm finally giving in to his scrutiny demands.
Separately, WSJ reports the deal is in "serious jeopardy," and that Musk's team is likely to change direction.
The social media site has been experiencing unstable financial conditions aside from Musk's upcoming $44 billion acquisition of Twitter.
