Angry Toby Carvery customers have slated the Mitchells & Butlers-owned restaurant chain after it stopped serving lamb as part of its Sunday roast menu.
The pub chain said due to a supply issue lamb will not now be a part of its three-roast weekend lunch and only be sold on specific dates.
“We experienced difficulties within our own lamb supply chain which meant it hasn’t been on our decks as frequently recently,” it told the Sun newspaper.
Customers though accused the company of a cost-saving measure due to the rising price of meat.
Ben Marriott, a butcher, tweeted: “Just come for a carvery to be told you’re not doing lamb unless it’s a special occasion.
"That’s so rubbish - makes Sundays no different from any other day now."
According to the paper, Toby said lamb would be back on menus in the near future.
Last year, Nandos and Greggs famously ran short on chicken due to the lorry driver shortage, while supply problems meant Wetherspoons running out of Carling and Coors beer while McDonald’s had no milkshakes.
Shares in Mitchells & Butlers today rose 1% to 186p.
