FTSE 100 has made a strong start to the week led by oil and gas majors BP and Shell. Protestors meanwhile have blocked key chunks of UK motorways in protest at high petrol prices. London’s blue-chip index was up 67 at 7,235.

Tesco said it will kick off a £150mln share buyback programme. The firm said it had appointed HSBC to repurchase shares as part of a wider plan to acquire £750mln worth of shares by April 2023.

Amazon will be launching a fleet of e-cargo bikes and a team of on-foot delivery staff to replace van deliveries in some London’s ultra-low emission zones. A new hub will be opened in Hackney and contribute to roughly 5mln deliveries.

There are fewer pubs in England and Wales than there were 10 years ago, research has found. Their total number dropped below 40,000 in the first half of 2022 - the lowest number on record, according to real estate advisers Altus Group (TSX:AIF).

UK pawnbroker H&T Group has bought Omega watch repair provider Swiss Time for £4.3mln. It aims to “to bring watch expertise in-house,” improve margins and offer more to customers.

Omega Diagnostics has decided on its unnamed preferred bidder to acquire its CD4 business. The potential buyer will have four weeks to complete its due diligence, with the transaction expected to be completed shortly after.

IQGeo Group struck a deal with a giant American telecom network operator for one of the largest ‘Fibre to the x’ and 5G build-outs in the US. The deal is for a period of three years and has a software subscription value of US$3.6mln for an initial cohort of users and service value of around US$2.1mln.
