American Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:ARR)’s Chris Gibbs speaks with Proactive’s Andrew Scott about research funding for the processing and refining of rare earths. Gibbs explains ARR’s involvement in a US consortium team, which has received US$4 million (AU$A5.5 million) in funding to focus on rare earth processing and refining technology. The funding comes on the back of news earlier this week of outstanding drill results from the Halleck Creek Rare Earth Project in Wyoming, USA. The company drilled its first nine holes for 917 metres and collected 650 core samples with results demonstrating the potential for Halleck Creek to be one of the largest rare earths deposits in North America. Plans are now underway for ARR to update the resource estimate, with the company believing its existing exploration target is significantly underestimated. Gibbs highlighted the fact that ore from Halleck Creek and its La Paz project (from which assays are currently due) will be provided to researchers to develop scalable, bio-based separation and purification of Rare Earths elements.
