Amazon imposes temporary purchase limit on Plan B pills

Amazon said it limited purchases to three units per week following a spike in demand

Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) said it placed a temporary limit on the amount of ‘Plan B’ pills that can be bought in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the 1973 Roe v Wade ruling.

The supreme court decision overturned an almost 50-year-old constitutional right to have an abortion and means women living in numerous states across the US could be denied an abortion.

Amazon said it has limited purchases to three units per week following a spike in demand and has yet to put a timeline on when the limit will be lifted.

Plan B is an emergency contraceptive pill used by women, usually within days of intercourse, who wish to reduce the chance of an unwanted pregnancy.

Other providers of the over-the-counter pill, such as pharmacy chain CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS), also introduced a purchase limit, although it is now expected to remove that.
