Ryanair Holdings PLC (LSE:RYA) has had to cancel some flights as cabin crew have gone on strike in Belgium, Spain and Portugal today, the first of at least six days of planned action in different countries.
Walk-outs are expected in Italy and France as well, with staff around Europe in dispute with the Irish budget airline over pay and working conditions.
Cabin crew in Spain are planning to walk out on June 24, 25, 26 and 30, as well as July 1 and 2 due to unsatisfactory working conditions and pay.
Belgium's trade unions say Ryanair is not complying with labour laws, forcing them to take action, and as a result they plan to walk out from June 24 to 26.
The Brussels Zaventem Airport had already cancelled all flights on Monday due to security concerns.
Italian employees have called for a 24-hour strike on June 25, joining their colleagues in Spain and Portugal, while several airports in France are expected to be affected by union actions scheduled for June 25 and 26.
Summer travel in Europe is already suffering from cancellations, delays, and long queues at airports, with the disruption caused by lack of jobs after the sweeping job and pay cuts made during the pandemic.
