Meta to ditch CrowdTangle - report

Facebook has reportedly largely removed development support

Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is reportedly set to shut down CrowdTangle, a feature that can track social media posts.

CrowdTangle is a public insight tool from Facebook that helps those outside the company, such as journalists and researchers, follow, analyse and report what is happening across social media.

Facebook bought CrowdTangle in 2016 and said the tool tracks performance of stories across all social media platforms, including Instagram and Twitter.

According to a Bloomberg report, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter, Meta has largely removed development support and is making firm plans to shut it down entirely.

Removing the feature would pull access that people at Meta have used to bring to light data, such as accounts with high engagement with right-wing news sources on Facebook, for example.
