The Obama's media company signs up to Amazon, ending Spotify relationship

Audible will have the right to have a first look at new material before others in the industry get access

Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama's production company, the Higher Ground, signed a multi-year deal with Audible, ending its three-year relationship with Spotify.

Audible, which is owned by Amazon, will have the right to have a first look at new material before others in the industry get access, as well as create original audio content, according to Reuters.

Higher Ground’s relationship with Spotify started in 2019, with the two going on to make ‘The Michelle Obama Podcast’ and ‘Born in the USA’, a series of conversations between musician Bruce Springsteen and former President Barack Obama.

However, Spotify were said to have declined to renew its deal with Higher Ground, according to Reuters, which prompted the Obamas and Higher Ground to seek new partners, before deciding to strike a deal with Audible.
