The month of May saw $14.12 billion in total capital raised via the ASX, nearly double the amount raised in May last year.
$10.996 billion was raised in initial capital — new capital raised via new shares issued, such as through an initial public offering (IPO) or follow-on raisings such as rights issues or share placements — up 133% on the $4.7 billion raised in May 2021.
It brings the total amount of capital raised via the ASX in the 2022 financial year so far to $233.7 billion, a whopping 170% increase on FY21.
The amount of initial capital raised in FY22 has more than doubled, while secondary capital has tripled.
Investors have been hungry, with the volume of daily trading jumping 20% — as did the average daily traded value of $6.6 billion.
The total value of the cash market for May rose 27% to $169.1 billion; it sits at $1.8 trillion for FY22 thus far, up 16%.
There were 10 new companies welcomed to the bourse last month, including silica sands explorer Allup Silica Ltd (ASX:APS).
With listing under its belt, Allup is now focused on the development of its Sparkler project, which includes ongoing exploration and updating its minerals resource estimations to higher levels of JORC compliance.
Looking ahead, the company aims to continue to explore new silica exploration opportunities and where appropriate, other mineral exploration opportunities to grow its portfolio of projects.
There are 2,315 companies now listed on the ASX, a 5% increase on this time last year.
