TikTok Global will introduce new features designed to stop addicted fans spending hours scrolling through its feed.
A new tool will allow users take control of how much time they spend on the social media platform.
And users will be prompted to take a break after a certain amount of uninterrupted screen time.
The features will complement the company's existing daily screen time limit feature, which enables users to set a daily time allowance for using the app per day.
Teenagers tend to love the video sharing platform and the company's plan is to build a "positive relationship with digital devices" centred around the user being in control.
TikTok users will be able to see their screen time dashboard, which shows the amount of time they spend on the app and how often they open it.
They will also be able to opt in to weekly notifications to review these figures.
"Having a positive relationship with digital devices and apps isn’t just about measuring screen time, it’s also about feeling in control of how we use technology and ensuring that the time we spend online contributes positively to our sense of wellbeing," the company said.
"That’s why we’re taking a number of steps today to help support our community’s digital wellbeing as they create and discover on TikTok."
The social media giant has also published an online guide on its safety centre that offers tips for setting boundaries and developing good digital habits.
While younger users are to receiving automatic messages related to digital wellbeing, a message will also be sent to users aged 13-17 if they use the app for more than 100 minutes a day.
