Latin Resources Ltd (ASX:LRS) has extended the mineralised strike at the Colina lithium prospect in Brazil to more than 1 kilometre.
Diamond drilling at the prospect's northern limits led to the strike extension, while drill core logging also confirmed that the high-grade pegmatites at Colina remain open to the south.
In particular, more than 14.68 metres and 14.41 metres of spodumene-bearing pegmatite have been logged in the southernmost holes drilled to date.
Unlocking Colina's potential
Commenting on the findings, Latin exploration manager Tony Greenaway said: “These latest assay results from Colina are very pleasing, extending our zone of high-grade lithium by roughly 250 metres to the north.
“We are continuing to get excellent high-grade results in from our sampling, and now have confirmed high-grade lithium intercepts over a strike length of around 900 metres.
“… Combined with drilling further to the south, showing good spodumene mineralisation in drill core, we now have a strike of over one kilometre to test with our resource definition drilling.
“The more we drill at Colina, the more confident we are becoming that we are onto something very significant.
“We are working with a range of consultant groups, including mining and metallurgical groups to commence preliminary study work.”
The results are in
Some of the latest drill assays out of Colina include:
- 1.1 metres at 1.15% lithium oxide from 49.90 metres;
- 3.13 metres at 1.48% from 60.82 metres, including 1.13 metres at 1.73% from 60.82 metres;
- 4.23 metres at 1.52% from 64.80 metres, including 2.1 metres at 2.27% from 64.80 metres;
- 4.55 metres at 0.98% from 97.95 metres, including 2.73 metres at 1.32% from 98.86 metres;
- 1.55 metres at 1.37% from 110.05 metres, including: 0.8 metres at 2.12% from 110.05 metres; and
- 4.35 metres at 1.76% from 36.75 metres, including: 3.3 metres at 2.08% from 36.75 metres.
When Latin logged drill core from Colina’s southernmost holes, it confirmed the presence of significant widths of spodumene-bearing pegmatites.
Ultimately, this extended the known occurrence to over one kilometre along strike, with mineralisation remaining open to the south.
Latin’s current close-spaced resource definition drilling will aim to test this full strike extent to roughly 400 metres down dip.
Down the line, data from this drilling will be to calculate a maiden JORC mineral resource estimate for the Colina prospect.
To facilitate this, Latin has kicked off discussions with independent resource consultant groups, and it hopes to deliver the resource in December 2022.
