Newfield Resources resumes operations at Tongo Diamond Mine

Tongo’s underground tunnel and development heading, where an underground mine worker tragically lost his life last week, remains closed for an investigation.

Newfield Resources Ltd (ASX:NWF) has resumed operations at its Tongo Diamond Mine in Sierra Leone after a fatality last week.

The underground tunnel and development heading, where the incident occurred, remains closed while authorities investigate alongside the company’s personnel.

In the meantime, Newfield has recommenced work within Tongo’s mine component, ensuring the restriction won’t disrupt the other activities at the mine site.

A fatal fall-of-ground incident, involving an underground mine worker, was recorded around 5:30 am local time on May 23 at the Sierra Leone diamond mine.

Newfield’s board of directors and management team expressed their sincere condolences to the family and co-workers of the deceased, and the company is providing full support to the family.

“The National Minerals Agency of Sierra Leone and mine management will work together on the investigation into this unfortunate incident,” the company stated last week.
