Helix Resources Ltd. (ASX:HLX) – formerly known as Aeris Resources – has intersected wide zones of visual copper sulphide mineralisation in two diamond holes, drilled in the central portion of the Canbelego Main Lode within the Canbelego joint venture (JV) Copper Project in New South Wales.
Helix resumed drilling at Canbelego last year following an eight-year hiatus and has since increased the depth extent of mineralisation beneath the current mineral resource, as well as developing a greater geological understanding of mineralised trends.
Drill hole CANDD006 was targeted at the up-dip portions of the new Western Lodes, which are positioned in parallel to the down-dip plunge of the main Canbelego resource lode.
Copper assays from the upper section of drill core CANDD006 returned results of 3 metres at 1.01% copper from 106 metres at a 0.5% cut off, as well as 1-metre at 1.93% copper from 106 metres and 1 metre at 1.54% copper from 138 metres at a 1% copper cut off.
Helix says these results are highly encouraging, worthy of follow-up testing for deeper, more intensely mineralised positions on this potential new lode zone.
Results demonstrate “fertile nature” of tenure
“We are building up a very active program initially focused on drilling along the Rochford Trend and building up the copper mineralisation around Canbelego,” Helix Resources managing director Mike Rosenstreich said.
“It is also very pleasing to have continued to locate further visual copper sulphide hits which continue to demonstrate the fertile nature of our ground in the well-endowed Cobar basin of NSW.
“In addition to further successful results at Canbelego, we are also extending our work to test a series of earlier stage copper targets along both the Rochford and Collerina copper trends.
“The team is conducting new surface geochemical sampling programs and geophysical surveys to advance additional regional targets over the entire property portfolio and build up the tempo of exploration activity and news flow.”
A major drilling program is still in progress at the project, consisting of 50 diamond drilled holes for 10,000 metres and targeting:
- large data gaps in the Canbelego Main Lode as well as down-plunge extensions of known high-grade zones – with the benefit of a new interpretation on the mineralisation trends;
- depth extensions of the newly identified Western Lodes; and
- the Caballero zone (2.5 kilometres south of Canbelego), to follow-up on historical anomalous soil and scout drilling results.
