Polymetals Resources Ltd (ASX:POL) is back on the ground at the Mansala Gold Project in Guinea thanks to an airborne magnetic survey.
The new program is designed to determine the structural controls on Mansala’s mineralisation and give the company a clearer picture of the project’s host rocks.
Polymetals’ 500-line-kilometre survey comes after the explorer completed a 700-line-kilometre program at the Alahiné project last month.
Combined with recent auger drilling and a soil sampling program, the explorer will use its latest survey to design an initial reverse circulation drill program at Mansala.
Auger program
Polymetals has drilled 799 holes, covering 6,123 metres, since it kicked off its auger program in late February.
The campaign took place on a 100-metre by 50-metre drill pattern over six delineated areas, as outlined below.
POL’s auger program was designed to test gold-in-soil anomalies supported by coincident pathfinder elements (such as arsenic, silver, bismuth, molybdenum, antimony, tungsten and tellurium).
The company also plans to take a closer look at strong gold anomalies (reporting more than 1000 parts per billion) without supporting pathfinder elements before to moves to further drill testing.
Soil sampling at Mansala
Polymetals is also completing a soil sampling program for XRF analysis on the western portion of the Mansala licence.
The campaign is designed to delineate orogenic gold pathfinder elements within Mansala’s western corridor.
Subsequently, samples that return with anomalous pathfinder elements will be assayed for gold.
All soil samples will be collected from between 300 to 500 millimetres below the surface on a 100-metre by 25-metre grid.
From here, the samples will be analysed using portable XRF to test for any pathfinder elements in the district.
Down the line, the soil sampling results will be used to identify further follow up targets within the Mansala Gold Project.
Next steps
It’s all hands on deck at Mansala for the next chapter of fieldwork.
Once the survey results are in, Polymetals will look for future drill targets and use the findings to design its next exploration campaigns in 2022.
Results for the survey are expected next quarter.
In the meantime, XRF analysis will scrutinise samples for those all-important pathfinder elements.
Polymetals will take a closer look at its bottom-of-hole intervals in the hopes they can complement the geochem data from its previous soil sampling campaign.
Finally, an initial reverse circulation drill program is in the works for the Mansala gold property.
Polymetals will map out the holes based on pit sampling, the auger program and any targets identified during the airborne survey.
